During the Republic of China, a child whose parents both died lived in the east alley of the old city of Peiping. At first, the villagers treated him as a beggar. Until the intellectual Li Cheng accidentally met Ganzi and passed the revolutionary torch to Ganzi. From then on, the two began to walk together on the road of revolution and participated in the May Fourth Movement together. As the revolution continued to deepen, Ganzi's life experience was revealed, and Li Cheng's mother also changed from her initial opposition to participating in the revolution to her final support and understanding. In the end, the two originally planned to join the Communist Party of China together, but Li Cheng chose to stay because of his mother's illness, until he finally received Ganzi's last words. Many years later, Li Cheng still remembered this old friend, and the story of the pole was also passed down among Li Cheng's students.
