"Sunrise·Prologue" is a youth coming-of-age novel set in a summer mountain village. It tells the story of two teenagers—Ye Fei, a boy from the mountain village, and Shen Xichen, a boy from the city—who met and got to know each other during the summer vacation.
The story begins with a flashback on a sunrise in July, and then unfolds the encounter on the first day: the well-dressed Xichen and the water-stained Ye Fei form a sharp contrast in the farmyard. However, two completely different teenagers gradually approached each other. Ye Fei takes Xichen to explore mountain streams, catch stone crabs, catch cicadas, and visit secret cabins; Xichen responds to the innocence and freedom of the mountains in his own way.
The novel uses "sunrise" as the core image throughout. Xichen's name means "like morning light, illuminating oneself and those who deserve to be illuminated." During this encounter, Ye Fei began to think about propositions about the "future" - "What does the future look like?" "Do I want to walk out of the mountains?" These questions quietly took root in the young man's heart.
The author uses delicate and gentle writing to describe the subtle and sincere emotional connection between the two teenagers. From the initial strangeness and estrangement, to playing by the stream, walking together in the mountains, writing late at night, and finally welcoming the sunrise together, the work captures those fleeting but unforgettable moments. When Ye Fei carried Xichen on his back and ran to the top of the mountain to watch the sunrise, and when he said, "Our summer is not over yet. The future never arrives in a hurry," a unique poetry and warmth of youth bloomed quietly in the morning glow.
