"Red Embers" is set in an imaginary ancient times and tells the story of the love-hate entanglement between Situ Le, the daughter of the Imperial Tutor, and the young general Gu Yichen.
Situ Le married into the General's Mansion with great expectations, but was repeatedly indifferent and ignored by Gu Yichen during their three-year marriage. He seems to have no love for his children, and the appearance of a "saviour", Miss Su, makes the already fragile relationship even worse. The frustrated Situ Le resolutely proposed to divorce and returned to her parents' home to regain herself.
It wasn't until Situ Le really left that Gu Yichen suddenly realized that he had already been deeply in love. The former cold-blooded general turned into a wife chaser, trying to save her in regret and humility. He silently guarded her, put aside her pride and expressed his feelings, but he repeatedly ran into obstacles. However, the turmoil in the court accidentally broke the possibility of Situ Le's remarriage, causing the relationship between the two to become turbulent again.
The story revolves around the core of "Chasing Wife's Crematorium" and delicately depicts Gu Yichen's transformation from hindsight to heartbreak, as well as Situ Le's struggle between past hurt and shaken heart. When a frozen heart encounters belated love, will they reunite, or will they be at peace? A battle about love, repentance and redemption slowly unfolds against the background of the prosperous imperial capital.
