The registration form for the programming competition was crumpled and thrown into the trash can; unnecessary social interactions were accurately eliminated from the schedule; excess emotions were swallowed back before speaking. He only records /non-essential items/ in his notebook, and then crosses them out one by one, as if completing some kind of deletion confirmation.

Lu Beifu from the Department of Journalism specializes in collecting things that others don't want - expired lecture notices, torn notes, abandoned class schedules. He believes that what is discarded also has a story, just as he believes that questioning is closer to the truth than agreeing. Two people who repeatedly jumped between "necessary" and "non-essential" were forced to collaborate on a project about "campus regrets". Gu Xiao learned to recognize concern in Lu Beifu's questioning, and Lu Beifu learned to read trust in Gu Xiao's silence. They finally understood that those expectations that were considered unnecessary, fruitless efforts, and unspoken companionship were precisely the necessary elements that constituted each other.
