"Orchid Flower Ballade" is an erhu ballad composed by Guan Ming in 1981 based on the main tone and storyline of the northern Shaanxi folk song "Orchid Flower".
The music consists of introduction, presentation, development, recapitulation and coda. By portraying the typical image of Lan Huahua, a beautiful, kind, innocent and simple rural girl, and her unfortunate experiences in love, it shows Lan Huahua's strong character who has the courage to fight against feudal forces. The work draws on the musical form structure of Chinese and Western sonatas, integrates some performance characteristics of Chinese opera music, and has a strong artistic appeal.
