The fallen stars of the empire are rekindled under the red sky of the future.
Ji Yunshan, once the youngest marshal of the empire, fell into an icy lake during a political conspiracy and his body was not found. When he opened his eyes again, he found himself in a Chinese-style courtyard where ancient elegance and modernity intertwined. The person who saved him was the mysterious and dazzling Sui Qiaoxi, an ace pilot and idealist with a complicated identity who piloted the "Qiushi" airship.
This world, called the Interstellar Federation, is bright on the surface, but underneath lies the shadow of privilege and unfinished ideals. Ji Yunshan, armed with the machinations and wisdom of the old empire and scars all over his body, was sent to the People's Department of the Central University as a refugee. Together with a group of working class classmates from different backgrounds, he re-understood what civilization, ideals and people are through the red education of "remembering the past" and the cutting-edge knowledge of interstellar navigation.
And Sui Joshi, the Communist Party member who fished him out of the lake, is entangled with deeper mysteries: the past of body modification, the trauma of being betrayed by students, persistence in educational fairness, and... The secret and passionate feelings for him, a "historical hero." They are attracted to each other, but they are separated by a whole civilizational value gap: he is a realist who sees through the darkness and yearns for peace; she is the ideal light that burns her own self and is unswervingly determined.
When the dark world full of "human consumables" from the outside is watching with eager eyes, and the obstruction of the privileged class inside is undercurrent, the two scarred souls are forced to side by side. Ji Yunshan must make a choice: Indulge in the hard-won warmth, or take over the authority handed over by the guardian and use the methods of the old world to defend the ideals of the new world?
This is a dialogue across time and space, a heroic love song dedicated to idealists, and a profound reflection on history, power and love.
Note: The ending of this article (it feels like it has to wait until a long time in the future) is full of hope, just like the title of the book "Xuanxi", which contains the meaning of "returning to hope" (both hope and those who symbolize hope)
