The novel tells the story of doctor Shen Jibai and his lover Zhou Yuan who have been together for ten years. After Zhou Yuan was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, he tried to face it alone and left quietly. Shen Jibai never left her, accompanying him to dance the dance of his dreams in the auditorium of the medical school, and also accompanied him to the end of his life. Zhou Yu'an chose hospice care and passed away with dignity. Although Shen Jibai was grieved, he complied with his wishes and finished playing the song and danced the last dance for him in the auditorium. He turned off the lights in the auditorium and walked out of the darkness. The love and thoughts left by Zhou Yu'an, like the pot of stubbornly growing green radish, became the light that will never go out in Shen Jibai's life.
