Taking Chen Nianmei's half-life as the main narrative line, it tells the story of her tragic life of struggling, escaping and being dragged back in her native family that values boys over girls. Chen Nianmei had excellent grades since she was a child, but was forced to drop out of school and work to support her younger brother's education. She tried her best to marry into a seemingly stable family, thinking she could escape the quagmire of her original family, but she was betrayed by her husband. Her younger brother, Chen Nianjun, incurred huge debts from gambling, and her parents forced her to sell her house to pay off the debt. After she spent all her savings, she was abandoned by her family as a burden. The physical illness, the indifference of family affection, and the disillusionment of love pushed her into the abyss step by step. Finally, on a rainy evening, Chen Nianmei lay alone in the old house on Moss Lane, listening to the sound of rain outside the window, and closed her eyes silently. Only the yellowing certificate on the wall still retained her longing for life.
Purpose: to use the disintegration of an ordinary family to write about the powerlessness and sense of fate of individuals in the transformation of the times, to explore the shackles of the original family, the alienation of family ties and the fragility of human nature, and to show the desolate lives of those little people left behind by the torrent of the times, struggling between survival and dignity.
