The scholar Dou Yuheng is a descendant of the "Vine Keeper", who is good at painting butterflies but has no talent for it. In late spring, a glazed fluorescent butterfly led him into the Wisteria Valley, where he strayed into the dreamland of the butterfly kingdom that had been hidden for thousands of years, and met Yingxi, the princess of the glazed butterfly tribe. The two of them both had butterfly-shaped birthmarks on their palms, and they fell in love with each other at first sight. However, the love between immortals and mortals was opposed by the princess's uncle, Prince Mo Yi, who ordered her to pass the "three questions test": Dou Yuheng was finally recognized with respect, affection and the mind of "not choosing the human world nor abandoning the butterfly country, and is willing to use the brush as a bridge to promote the symbiosis of the two worlds".
The two fell in love under the ancient vine moon, gifted each other feathers and bluestones, and vowed to fly together among the flowers. Unexpectedly, the greedy drug dealer Jia Renyi coveted the butterfly scale powder to extend life, set up a trap to capture butterflies for profit, and even framed the butterfly tribe as a monster. At the critical moment, Dou Yuheng cleverly used "Truth Scale Powder" to set up a trap, causing Jia Renyi to reveal his crime under the illusion of psychedelism; Princess Yingxi even went to court to plead her case, and used the "Butterfly Clan Merit Chart" to prove that the butterfly clan has protected the world for hundreds of years - spreading pollen in the spring, eliminating pests in the summer, teaching weaving skills in the autumn, and applying medicine in the winter. The magistrate of the county made a clear decision, severely punished the profiteers, and issued a decree to make people live in peace and harmony.
On the moonlit night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the two performed the "double-dwelling ceremony". The couple gave up their immortality and turned into mortals, while Dou Yuheng took the butterfly soul into the painting. From then on, they jointly wrote "Butterfly Love Book", guarded the roots of Wisteria, raised children and passed on their skills, and watched the spring and autumn of the world with a smile. The whole play uses magnificent imagination to interpret that true love is not about possession but symbiosis, advocates mutual learning among civilizations and ecological co-prosperity, and conveys the Eastern wisdom of "respecting nature, valuing trust, and seeking harmony."
Purpose: To transcend "possession" with "symbiosis", to eliminate "estrangement" with "understanding", and to advocate respect, mutual trust and harmonious coexistence between man and nature and between different ethnic groups in the dual dimensions of love and civilization.
