Synopsis
"Indus and Rope" is a youth healing novel that spans twelve years. It tells the complete growth story of Wan Ziyang and Zhang Linzun from the age of four to sixteen, from separation to reunion. In the autumn of 2013, two boys with very different personalities met under the sycamore tree in Jiujiang Kindergarten. The sunny and cheerful Wan Ziyang took the initiative to approach Zhang Linzun, who was introverted and had low self-esteem, and discovered the birthmark on his neck and the secret of asthma. In early 2014, Wan Ziyang tied a blue bracelet on Zhang Linzun and promised to "wear it all the time." This "blue rope" has since become a symbol of the bond between the two. However, in the summer of 2016, due to family changes, Wan Ziyang moved to Yiyang with his parents, and the two lost contact and began a nine-year "hidden period." In the past nine years, the blue rope faded on Zhang Linzun's wrist but was never taken off, becoming his only solace in growing up alone in a family where his father remarried; and behind Wanziyang's outstanding performance in Yiyang was the silent longing for the "little boring gourd" in Jiujiang every night. The two grew up separately in parallel time and space - Ziyang, Anhui, grew into a 182cm sunny boy, while Zhang Linzun struggled to make progress amidst the problems of low self-esteem and asthma. The turning point came on February 23, 2025. 15-Year-old Wan Ziyang returned to Jiujiang alone with the address in his childhood memories and knocked on the door of Zhang Linzun's house. At the moment of reunion, nine years of time collapsed in an instant, the eyes remained unchanged, and the blue rope was still there. From then on, Wan Ziyang traveled from Yiyang to Jiujiang almost every weekend, bringing Zhang Lin a new understanding of the world, tutoring him in his homework, and accompanying him to overcome his low self-esteem. In the late autumn of 2025, the two confirmed their relationship on Wutong Road in Nanmen Lake, Jiujiang. At that time, Wan Ziyang had grown to 186cm, and Zhang Linzun had also reached 182cm. The novel delicately describes how two teenagers find each other in the gap of time, how to heal childhood trauma with companionship, and how to protect this relationship in a "semi-feudal and semi-enlightened" family environment. This is not only a love story, but also a youth epic about memory versus time, sincerity spanning distance, and vulnerability and strength defining each other. From "Brother Ziyang" to "Tie the Rope Man", from "Blue Rope" to "Returning Home", those knots tied in childhood will eventually bloom into the toughest flowers as they grow. The idea: to fight against the emptiness of time with a concrete bond, to complete each other's integrity with a two-way rush, and to explore how memory can become a light source that illuminates long-term growth.
