Chinese horror x suspense
"Back to the South" is a Chinese horror and suspense novel set in the fictional time period from the 1980s to the 1990s. The story begins in a community that appears peaceful but is actually built on the site of a cult, where bizarre disappearances occur one after another. Zhang Xiaochuan went from being a staunch materialist to being forced into an unfathomable conspiracy. Together with detective Yun Mo, coffin shop owner Liu Nieqing and others, they jointly tracked down an ancient sect that believed in the "shaman ancestor spirit". As the investigation deepens, they discover that the disappearance is related to the village that was burned down decades ago, and that their companions seem to be hiding ulterior secrets. In the humid and depressing Hui Nantian, a dark ritual related to faith, memory and redemption is quietly approaching.
(Ps: It's not a very rigorous criminal police story…
