World view 1:
During the Southern Song Dynasty, with the rise of Neo-Confucianism, the control of women was tightened in all aspects. Under the guidance of the idea of "men are outside and women are inside", women's living space was sharply compressed into the inner house, a large number of women were born, and the trend of foot binding emerged. At this time, foot binding was not the "three-inch golden lotus" that broke the foot bones in future generations. Instead, foot binding restricted the growth of the feet by wearing arch shoes, pursuing slender feet, slow movement, and light body. In a physical sense, women were allowed to observe the distinction between inside and outside to the greatest extent, and men and women were protected. It is in such a harsh environment that our heroine goes from the embroidered building to the social wilderness, and from a boudoir daughter to a strong person who dares to face fate and the times.
World view 2:
When a person dies with some strong negative emotions, the soul will remain in the world and become a "grudge". The person cursed by the "grudge" will grow a causal line. When the red line closes, it is the time of death. The ways to break the "curse" are: "transcendence", which breaks the obsession, and the curse will disappear on its own; and "surrender", which is powerfully destroyed, but the caster will inherit the cause and effect of the original "curse", and the risk of physical damage and Taoism will be eliminated.
Ordinary people cannot see the "curse", but the heroine Xue Shujing has "different pupils" (also known as "Lian Si Jian"), which can be seen as the "curse". Ordinary people cannot see "The Grudge", but there is a plant called "The Hanging Golden Lantern", which came into being in response to the "Grudge". Before the "Grudge" kills people, its red fruits hang down, and is known as the "Man-eating Lantern". After the person dies, the fruit is as broken as bones, and is known as the "Pink Skull". This is the most direct visual experience that the "Grudge" brings to ordinary people.
