"Chaos" tells the story of Li Jing, a 28-year-old civil servant in Chengdu, who is torn between marriage and herself. On the surface, she has a stable job, a down-to-earth husband, Ge Youzhi, and a step-by-step life, but inside she feels deeply depressed and lonely. At work, the appreciation of young colleague Wang Gang made her feel understood; Bao Shuai, a successful man outside the system, awakened her desire for another life with his exquisite life and artistic taste.
Li Jing vacillates between the triviality of marriage and the temptations of the outside world. Ge Youzhi's pragmatic care is in sharp contrast to Bao Shuai's romantic offensive, making her fall into the pull of morality and desire. In the end, after an expensive dinner, she accepted the transfer from Bao Shuai, which symbolized her choice to break the status quo and step into the unknown.
The story uses delicate strokes to describe the mental dilemma of contemporary young women under the pressure of the system, marriage and reality, and presents the eternal struggle between stability and freedom, responsibility and self.
