"The Backside of the City" tells the story of Lin Mo, the captain of the city's criminal investigation detachment, who leads a team to detect serial murders. The corpse of a woman disguised as "Sleeping Beauty" appears in a city center park. She died of an overdose of a special drug, and rare orchid powder was left at the scene. A week later, a young entrepreneur died in his study. The two cases were connected with "Confessions" and the same orchid powder beside him.
The investigation leads to an abandoned orchid breeding base on the outskirts of the city, and the disappearance of a researcher twenty years ago comes to light. As the third and fourth deceased appeared one after another, the signs of death hinted at "betrayal" and "greed" respectively, and clues led to the base's accountant, researcher assistant, son of a security guard, and retired police officer.
Lin Mo is burdened with the psychological shadow of a miscarriage of justice that resulted in the death of a colleague three years ago. In cooperating with forensic doctor Su Rui and young detective Zhao Peng, Lin Mo must not only solve the mystery laid by the murderer, but also face the ideological differences within the team.
