In the corner of Class C of the second year of Jinguzaka High School, there are two souls muted by the world.
Sakuraba Aoi, a transfer student in a wheelchair, uses the second button of her school uniform to record the losses in her life - the backs of her parents passing away, her legs that can no longer stand up, and the long silence when she first enters a new class. She thought that all that was left in her world was her grandma's old and warm hands, and the scenery outside the window where the seasons were changing but she could never step into it.
Until she met Sato Yuuto, the quietest person in the class. He always hides behind his bangs and books, smart but transparent, gentle but scarred. He would help her remove obstacles in the corridor when no one was around, tell her in a barely audible voice which road a wheelchair could pass, and silently walk through the April rain with broken glasses.
Two teenagers who had been scratched by life began a silent watch for each other in the season when the cherry blossoms were gone and the wisteria was beginning to bloom. She saw his tears hidden behind the library bookshelves, and he remembered the glimmer in her eyes when she looked toward the playground. Neither of them said much, just leaving a small piece of quiet habitat for each other in the hustle and bustle.
Until that day, when Sakuraba Ao carved the fourth scratch on the button, Sato Yuuto walked up to her and spread his palms——
Twenty identical buttons lay quietly inside, each engraved with words so tiny that they were almost invisible: "I'll lend you my leg."
"From the first grade of high school to the graduation of college, one pill every day." He said, his voice was very soft, but heavier than any oath, "Now, it's your turn to carve it for me -"
"In my heart."
