During the Yuanhe period of the middle Tang Dynasty, Yun Shen, the son of the Cui family in Qinghe, fell in love with Wan Tang, the daughter of the Lu family in Fan Yang, at first sight, but they were blocked by the iron wall of their family. Wan Tang was betrothed to Wei Jilun, the son of Jiedushi, and Yun Shen was also exiled to Lingnan for offending the powerful. On the eve of parting, the two made a private vow at Ci'en Temple but were intercepted. Wan Tang was forced to take medicine and forget his love, and Yun Shen embarked on a three-thousand-mile exile.
For the next forty years, he lived in seclusion in Zhongnan and painted all the begonias, but could no longer paint her face completely; she was trapped in a deep house in Luoyang, and her worries turned into persistent illnesses, and the cinnabar between her eyebrows gradually faded. When she was dying, she asked someone to send back the blue silk embroidered handkerchief: "This body is covered with mud and wadding, and I will not complain to the spring breeze for parting."
Intention: Individual true feelings cannot compete with the iron law of the times. Only memory and art can complete the spiritual burial that transcends time and space.
