Shen Zhu has been able to see "doors" since he was a child - the concrete representation of cracks in the structure of reality. He became a painter, trying to use paint to seal the gray-blue mist that only he could perceive and that was about to move. His "Gate" series of paintings caused a sensation in the art world and quietly became the trigger for abnormal phenomena.
At the art exhibition, more than ten people disappeared and returned out of thin air in front of him. Lu Linchuan, a professor of criminal investigation psychology, came to see him. He is as sharp as a knife: "Your paintings are not creating, but recording. Recording a 'door' that really exists."
What Lu Linchuan brought was the same ancient symbols at the serial unsolved case scenes as in Shen Zhu's paintings, as well as top-secret files about the mysterious disappearance of Shen Zhu's parents in the laboratory twenty-five years ago. All clues point to Shen Zhu: he is the key, the door, and the "liminality" itself.
To make matters worse, Gate activity is skyrocketing. The gray-blue erosion spreads from the canvas to reality, seeping out of the wall, trying to drag Shen Zhu into the other side. He strengthened the doors and windows, drew the ground as a prison, and became a lonely gatekeeper.
Until Lu Linchuan broke in, not only using tools to pry open the lock of his studio, but also using absolute rationality and calm protection to break through his closed heart.
Reason and perception join forces, profiler and gatekeeper. They dug through urban rumors and old archives and discovered that the opening of the "door" was not random, but a hunt across time and space. Shen Zhu's ability is a curse and the only hope to break the situation.
When the final "door" opened in the center of the city, reality began to peel away. Shen Zhu must face the source of his abilities and the truth about his family, while Lu Linchuan has to make a choice: follow all scientific knowledge and seal this dangerous "threshold", or trust the person who can see the door and walk into the unknown with him to completely end this threshold invasion that has lasted for twenty-five years.
Intention: When an individual becomes the only "anchor" between two worlds, should he choose to close himself or accept the connection. Reason and perception are not opposites, loneliness and trust are both strengths.
