I was once the "irrational variable" in his experimental report that required long-term observation.
On the eve of graduation, we agreed to meet on the rooftop in five years. But I couldn't wait for him. I only waited for a "final report" handed over by his junior sister - it said that my data "has too much interference and is recommended to be cleared", and at the end was his cold signature. That night, I burned all the icing that I had not given away and the plain ring I made for him.
In five years, I forged my tears into solid lines on the drawings. I grew from a young apprentice who couldn't use icing to a chief architectural restorer who can take charge of projects.
Destiny brings us back together in front of a century-old house. I am a restoration engineer, and he is a psychological consultant hired by Party A. We were polite and distant, perfectly acting as the most familiar strangers.
In the archives room until late at night, he held my wrist and refused to let go, his voice hoarse: "That report... You never saw the last page, right?"
Later I found out that on the last hidden page was his annotation that penetrated the back of the paper:
"The variable 'Shen Xunguang' has formed the core of the system and refuses to be cleared."
"The original five-year observation period is now applied to be changed to: indefinite."
"If she wishes, the observer can also apply to become her lifelong variable."
Under the moonlight, he found me, and in his palm lay the ring that I thought had been burned long ago - it turned out that it had been treasured by him, and he had rubbed it until it was smooth and warm.
"Shen Xunguang," his eyes were red, "I lost you for five years, and I calculated the error every day."
"Now, I apply to redo the experiment. This time, my variable is only you, and the conclusion will only be you."
Buildings can be restored with precision, but loving you remains unsolvable from the first day of observation.
Fortunately, we still have the rest of our lives to slowly calculate the melting point of each other's heart.
Intention: Find the precise melting point of love between the spectrum of reason and sensibility
