Su Qiuyue was originally the eldest daughter of Shanghai and came from a wealthy family. She met Lin Xiaoming, a boy from the Department of Architecture, during school. Su Qiuyue's father ran a medicine business. With the fall of Shanghai, Su Qiuyue's family fell into decline. For her own ideals, Su Qiuyue participated in demonstrations to protest against Japanese aggression when she was a student, and eventually decided to join the anti-Japanese and national salvation movement.
