This is an ancient epic intertwined with border wars and court games. It uses the tranquility of northern Xinjiang as an imaginary dynasty as the background, and tells the legend of a bosom friend who spans thousands of miles and shares life and death. Xie Jinghan, the general of Zhenbei, guarded Mingsha Pass for more than 20 years with his blood on his temples. He did not change his original intention despite the frost on his temples. He led his soldiers to repel the Beidi cavalry and quelled the Wuhuan rebellion in blood, and used his bones and muscles to build a strong barrier to the northern frontier.
The two of them guard the border and control the center. They use the swan goose's letter as a bridge and the righteousness of their family and country as a contract. They cooperate tacitly in the crisis of civil strife and tribal changes in Beidi, and support each other amidst the criticism of the court and the test of the erosion of time. Their friendship is the mutual understanding and mutual respect of "Inkstone and Fire", which has nothing to do with selfish interests, but only for the safety of the country; their perseverance is the loyalty and bravery passed down from generation to generation, the iron-blooded inheritance of veterans leading new recruits, and the simple wish of the people for peace, all of which are precipitated into immortal beliefs in the wind and sand.
In the story, there are battlefield battles with swords and shadows, turbulent court games, and deep friendships that span distance and time. From the golden red of the Populus euphratica forest to the vastness of the snow at the border, from the youthful spirit to the gray-haired old age, Xie Jinghan and Shen Yanci spent their lives fulfilling the oath of "protecting the land and tranquilizing the people". Their names, along with the incense of Shuangzhong Temple, are remembered by the people and have become the most touching background of their family and country in troubled times, interpreting the eternal pursuit of "the fire is passed down, the mountains and rivers are safe".
