In the first year of Kaiyuan, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty ordered the Qiantang River to be rebuilt. Xie Pinyan, the former chief registrar of Dali Temple, was transferred to Hangzhou Sima. He and Wei Yitang, the governor of Hangzhou, accidentally obtained a dark wooden box from a pond construction site, which contained a tightly sealed jade box with the words "First Emperor" engraved on the wall. The matter was so important that they immediately reported it to the court.
Xuanzong ordered Cui Yichen to go to Hangzhou to retrieve the treasure. He rescued the young girl Wang Xinnan in Huzhou and knew that she wanted to go to Hangzhou to visit her relatives, so he took her with him. In the Yuanzheng period, he reunited with his old friend Xie Pinyan, and the two solved the mystery of the death of his missing cousin Xie Jinhuan who was sealed inside the wall in Xie's old house ("The Man in the Wall").
Later, everyone went south to Hangzhou, but they were blocked halfway by the servant of Jinshan, a wealthy businessman in Hangzhou, who invited everyone to have a banquet at his newly built Xixi Meiyu Island.
The banquet was luxurious, the host was attentive, plum blossoms were everywhere on the island, and many Lantern Festival lanterns were hung for the occasion. While everyone is immersed in the joy of the festival, they do not expect that soon everyone will face a disaster of life and death.
What happened? Is this banquet just about wealthy businessmen admiring officials as originally stated?
