Lu Xingmian's talent for getting lost can be called the ninth wonder of the world - she can turn in the opposite direction at a convenience store 50 meters away in a straight line, stand at an intersection and look around blankly when the navigation voice prompts "You have arrived at your destination", and even led three lost visitors to wander around the underground warehouse of the library for two hours on the campus open day. In the photo album of Shen Jianwei's mobile phone, there are seventeen "Missing Person Notices" from different angles: when she was six years old and wearing a strawberry headband, she was crying in front of the cotton candy stand in the amusement park; when she was twelve years old and wearing a blue and white school uniform, she was squatting at the door of the gymnasium equipment room to fold paper airplanes; on her eighteenth birthday, she fell asleep under the ginkgo tree in a strange neighborhood with a bag of roasted chestnuts she bought when she was lost.
There are countless such coordinates hidden in their youth: Mr. Shen Jianwei keeps two maps in the middle of his schoolbag and uses a highlighter to mark the "high-risk areas" where she might get lost; Lu Xingmian's handwritten contact information is sewn under each pair of insoles, like the breadcrumbs left by Hansel in the fairy tale. The most sensational moment in the school was on the day of the college entrance examination, when he rushed out of the examination room to answer the phone and heard her crying, "I can't find the bun shop for lunch." Later, the school history museum still kept that photo: a boy in school uniform carrying a girl through the boiling examination room, she was holding a meat bun in her hand, and his shoulders were covered with sunshine.
It wasn't until the Aurora Tours in Iceland that the cycle was broken. When Shen Jianwei ran to the black beach according to the positioning, the GPS showed that she had stayed there for three hours. There were sparks floating in the sound of the tide, and Lu Xingmian was using crushed ice to make an arrow, pointing at the rusty iron box on the reef. Inside lay the first compass he gave her in kindergarten, the classroom key she always lost in middle school, and a note wetted by the waves: "Shen Jianwei, I'll wait for you this time. PS: I bought a return ticket, but the conductor said the destination must be written 'by Shen Jianwei'."
At the entrance of their apartment, the world map was covered with colorful thumbtacks, each of which was a place where she had lost her way. A miniature compass hangs on Shen Jianwei's keychain, and the pointer always points toward the bedroom - where Lu Xingmian is curled up sleeping, and the coordinates of his life that are constantly flashing on the bedside table.
