"Annual Rings" is an epic emotional novel that spans forty years. It is set against the background of China's great changes from the 1960s to the beginning of the new century. Through the ups and downs of the love story between Song Yu and Xia Xiaoguo, it shows the ups and downs of fate and spiritual perseverance of a generation in the tide of the times.
The story begins in 1968. Two young people who bear the label of "□□ children" - the calm and determined Song Yu and the sensitive and stubborn Xia Xiaoguo, got to know each other during their years as educated youth in southwest Guizhou. When Song Yu was able to return to the city because of his father's redress, Xia Xiaoguo chose to stay in the mountain village because his father died unjustly in prison.
