Three major families (Xiao, Liu, and Su) control the local military affairs. Among them, the Xiao family lives in the northern Xinjiang and controls the military. The Liu family controls the financial power in the south of the Yangtze River. The Su family relies on the prince's official connections in the capital. The female protagonist is from a branch of the declining Liu family, and the male protagonist is the eldest son of Xiao (the God of War in Northern Xinjiang).
