"Hundred Family Surnames" is an ancient Chinese work on surnames. It is one of the three major reading materials for traditional Chinese elementary education. Together with "Three Character Classic" and "Thousand Character Classic", it is called "Three Hundred Thousand".
- Time of writing and author: "One Hundred Surnames" was first written in the early Northern Song Dynasty. The author is generally believed to be a Confucian scholar from Qiantang (now Hangzhou). Wang Mingqing, a scholar in the Southern Song Dynasty, believed that the book was written by a scholar from the Wuyue Kingdom during the Five Dynasties period. Wang Xiang, a Qing Dynasty scholar, also recognized this statement.
