In troubled times, there are people on a desolate road, but there are people who use their hearts as lamps to light up the way home.
A severe drought swept across the Shu region, leaving thousands of miles of bare land and starving people everywhere. The girl Shen Tao carried her young brother on her back and embarked on the road to escape. On the verge of life and death, she rescued a five-year-old orphan and a sickly puppy. Three people and one dog depended on each other and headed towards the unknown plains.
After arriving at the refugee camp, they settled in an abandoned village. One dusk at dusk, Shen Tao discovered a dying boy - Lu Yang by the ditch. She chose to look back again, dragging him into the broken house and igniting the first warm light in this desolate place.
From having nothing to clearing up wasteland for farming, from being shaken by wind and rain to surging waves of wheat, they rebuilt their homes with their own hands. Digging shepherd's purse, planting winter wheat, building canals, and fighting flash floods, four people and one dog planted hope in the barren land. The children healed their wounds in laughter, Lu Yang shouldered the weight of guardianship in silence, and Shen Tao, from a timid runaway girl, grew into the most gentle and firm core of the family.
As spring passes and autumn comes, wheat seedlings break through the ground and homes are first formed. An autumn harvest banquet, with bright lights and laughter, they finally felt like "home". And the lonely souls who had been torn apart by fate also learned love and trust again while watching each other.
This is a short story about survival and growth in troubled times, and it is also a female growth poem that pits warmth against desolation. There are no earth-shattering legends, only the persistence of daily necessities, and those hands quietly holding hands in the darkness - it turns out that the most moving light is not in the sky, but in the depths of the human world.
