My grandfather was born in 1952 in a small village in Taihe County, Fuyang, Anhui. When he was a child, he stepped on the dust of the famine years, picked up wheat ears in a drafty adobe house, stayed on the sickbed, and gnawed tree bark. His grandfather, who lost his parents in childhood, was once revived by a mouthful of coarse grain from a neighbor when he was dying; When he was young, he responded to the country's call to serve as a soldier and stood guard in the biting cold wind. Wherever there was need, he was there. Because he believed that more children would bring blessings. After demobilization, my grandfather and grandmother fell in love at first sight through a blind date and gave birth to six children. They were middle-aged. He pushed a wooden cart to sell vegetables, opened a small restaurant, and lost money in the wave of policies. When he smoked in front of the account book at night, the ash fell all over the family portrait on the table; until his later years, he sat on a wicker chair on the balcony, basking in the sun and telling his grandchildren about the past. He peeled candy in his hands, and his wrinkles were filled with sweetness. The mistakes he had made and the hardships he had endured eventually became the umbrella he held for his family, turning ordinary days into stable happiness over the years.
