The first snowfall in Shanghai during the Republic of China quietly connected the trajectories of the two souls. Shen Shutong, an orphan girl from an aristocratic family who is cold and aloof, encounters Su Manqing, a well-known opera actor whose life is a mystery, in the attic of her old house. One is a caged bird trapped by family shackles, and the other is a dramatist floating in rumors. The temperature of the fingertips touching becomes the only glimmer of light in troubled times.
They got close to each other in the light and shadow of the peep show and the music of the opera garden, made a secret promise on a rainy night, and hid their silent confession in the first waltz. But the fog in Shanghai cannot hide the secret after all. The family's persecution, the world's tit-for-tat, and the torrent of the times have torn the fiery feelings apart. In order to protect each other, Su Manqing was forced to put on a mask, while Shen Shutong stepped into the abyss in the choice. Trust collapsed like a hairpin, and blood and lies intertwined into an inescapable web.
The fierce fire burned away the letters and the tenderness that once existed. The wind on the rooftop swept away the last words, and the mask at the funeral concealed the bone-eroding obsession. One is fighting against fate in loneliness, and the other is enduring the longing for Ling Chi from afar. They have become each other's salvation, and also become each other's deepest torture.
A hundred years have passed, and in the dusk of Liverpool, old objects whisper unfinished stories. Those fragments scattered in time - faded photos, empty pear orchards, names on tombstones, after all, only silent embers remain. This love that started in the first snow in Shanghai finally turned into an unwitnessed and eternal farewell in the abyss of time.
