Starting from the 1990s, the novel takes the emotional life of the protagonist and four women as the main line. It tells the story of rural youths who changed their destiny through their own efforts during the period of great social changes, pursued love, and entered the 21st century. They were coerced by society, forgot their original intentions, and continued to transform. It reflects the emotional entanglements, destiny games, and helplessness of life of ordinary people living at the bottom of society in the wave of reform and development.
