In the mountains of the south of the Yangtze River during the Xuanhe period, the orphan girl Ayuan met Qingxuan, a Taoist priest from Qingyun Temple, due to a heavy rain. The bamboo umbrella serves as a matchmaker, the sweet-scented osmanthus serves as a bond, and Qingxuan's gentle protection makes Ayuan fall in love with her. She sells her old house and escapes into a Taoist sect, just to stay with him. But this passionate love cannot withstand the ties of the world - Qingxuan returns to secular life for the proprietress of the rouge shop, and defines A Yuan as a "Taoist nun friend" at the wedding banquet, causing her full expectations to shatter into nothing?
