**Story synopsis:**
During the Anti-Japanese War of the Republic of China, Su Wan, the daughter of a painter from Jiangnan, and Yu He, a student from Peking, became acquainted with each other through painting and developed a secret love for each other. After Yu He joined the revolutionary front line, the two relied on letters to express their love. Thirty letters with rough edges carried the deep love between the north and the south and the concern during the war. When Yu He suddenly lost contact, the sickly Su Wan resolutely went north to look for her. She reunited with her lover in the falling snow in an alley, only to be separated again. In the end, Yu He died in battle, leaving behind half a piece of sweet-scented osmanthus cake and a red bean. Su Wan remained unmarried throughout her life. She continued her longing with paintbrushes and sealed her half-life waiting in a carved wooden box, allowing the love that transcended life and death to remain forever between the spring scenery of Jiangnan and the falling snow of Peking.
