I Beat the Village Chief's Son to the Catch, Then Hunt and Fish in the Hills to Spoil My Wife

[Period setting + mountain foraging and fishing + farming + revenge + traditional crafts + daily life with multiple heroines + no saintly do-gooder + every cent counted]

The village chief's son is infertile from birth. Afraid people will laugh at him for having no heir, he hatches a sinister plot: he tricks the "idiot" Chen Shan into going to the west wing to sire a child, then plans to frame him for hooliganism and seize his family's ancestral three mu of sunny hillside!

Just as Chen Shan pushes open the door, he finally comes to his senses after pretending to be an idiot for three years!

He retaliates by stuffing the village chief's son into a bed and setting a woodpile ablaze. In front of everyone, he forces the village chief to sign a written agreement granting him ninety days' grace, then carries his long-suffering young wife, Zhao Liying, back home!

Faced with a bare-walled house and a crushing 1,800-yuan debt, Chen Shan turns to his family's time-honored skills:

He steams a torn net with pig's blood mixed with tung oil, then braves the treacherous icy river to catch a wild 38-jin taimen;

He uses a method involving sorghum liquor to examine and save a pregnant sow, transplants four-leaf wild ginseng from the remote mountains, and takes bile from a hibernating bear with compassion and honor!

His young wife keeps the household accounts; a pretty veterinarian is always running to the backyard; and a capable, spirited manager works at the town's Yingbin Restaurant... See how Chen Shan uses his pair of all-purpose hands to turn a drafty earthen house into the finest red-brick estate in all the surrounding villages!
