The 1970s: We Find a Ginseng Baby, and the Whole Family Gets Rich Eating Meat

In 1975, a thousand-year-old ginseng spirit from Changbai Mountain became Tangtang, the little girl Su Wanniang found and brought home in Hongqi Village.

Her husband had gone missing while serving in the army, her vicious mother-in-law had cut off their food and forced her to remarry, and her six half-grown sons were skin and bones.

Everyone in the village laughed at Su Wanniang for going crazy. Her own family could barely feed itself, yet she'd taken in another useless burden!

But no one expected this babbling little girl to be the family's lucky charm supreme:

She fell into an icy river and came back with three huge red carp, each weighing several pounds.

She took a tumble in the mountains and dug a gleaming gold ingot out of the mud.

While others could search the bare earth without finding a single blade of grass, she only had to point her little hand to find mountainsides full of tender wild greens. Even the plump pheasants in the woods lined up to burrow into her arms!

Her six brothers adored her, and anyone who dared insult their little sister would get a poker to the head!

When her awful in-laws got greedy and came to snatch the gold ingots, ordering the mother and her children out of the old Lu family home, Su Wanniang looked at the room full of mountain delicacies and the real gold in the stove, then made her decision:

"We're moving! Tomorrow!"

Watching the mother and children in the west wing prosper, with the smell of meat wafting out every day, the vicious mother-in-law and sister-in-law, who had been waiting to laugh at them, were utterly dumbfounded and deeply regretful.

Then, on the very night the family moved into their new home, news suddenly arrived about the children's father, who everyone had declared "died in the army long ago"...
