After Breaking Off the Engagement in the 1970s, a Rugged Mountain Man Carries Her Home

The moment Jiang Hening opened her eyes, she had become a timid pushover in the 1970s, freshly dumped by her fiance.

Her fiance, Chen Shouye, blamed her for being cursed and causing her mother's death, then promptly married his dream girl, Liu Wanqing.

Her spineless father and vicious stepmother wanted to marry her off to some remote mountain ravine, using the thirty yuan in bride-price to support her stepsister.

She doesn't cry, make a scene, or accept her fate.

In her previous life, she learned all about processing Chinese medicinal herbs from her master. In this life, she will make a living with her own skills.

She gathers herbs in the mountains, processes medicinal ingredients, and treats villagers, building a life for herself one step at a time.

But Pei Zheng, the hunter from Great Green Mountain whom the whole village avoids, shows up uninvited.

He blocks her courtyard gate with half a wild boar slung over his shoulder, scowling as he says, "Good thing she broke off the engagement. I want her for my wife."

She coldly rejects him, but the rough man won't take no for an answer. One day he brings meat, the next he repairs her stove, and the day after that he replaces her leaky roof. He even sorts the herbs she's drying into neat piles by type.

The whole village says Pei Zheng is a living bandit and no girl would dare marry him. Only she discovers that beneath his rough exterior lies a heart attentive to the very core.

Her former fiance grows jealous as her life gets better and better, then shows up with his dream girl, claiming it had all been a misunderstanding.

Pei Zheng grabs him and throws him over the courtyard wall without sparing him a glance.

But just as Jiang Hening thinks her skills with medicinal herbs will let her put down roots in the mountain village, she discovers by chance that Pei Zheng's nightly trips into the mountains aren't just for hunting.

The things hidden in a cave deep in Great Green Mountain are enough to change everything she knows about this era.

What exactly is Pei Zheng guarding? Whose secret lies buried in that mountain cave?
