[Food and Business] [A Colorful Neighborhood Cast] [Love That Grows Over Time]
Jiang Man runs a small stove at Fish Market Entrance, selling meals and simmering soup while caring for her sharp-tongued grandmother and her little brother, who is always itching to go swimming in the river.
She is a wonderful cook, but she has not set foot in Wangjiang Tower for four years. The grand street banquet her father once presided over remains a favorite topic of conversation around town.
Then her friend comes running to her in a wedding dress, begging for help. The twelve banquet tables are about to open, the head chef has burned his hand, and the prized fish they ordered has turned out to be a basin of little shad nobody wants to look at.
Jiang Man borrows the wok her father used and picks up her knife.
Starting with that banquet, she moves into the quiet old street, repairs the stove, prepares feasts, and takes on apprentices. She goes into business with the shopkeepers, each with a temper of their own. She also meets Xie Tingzhou, a carpenter who cannot swim but insists on making sure the bridge is properly built.
She wants her grandmother to sit comfortably at the banquet and watch her put on a feast worthy of the whole city.
Xie Tingzhou has already made a promise with her: once all the work is done that day, the two of them will go eat the things she's been wanting.
