Everyone in Dashi Village knew Huo Ye as a discharged, rough-around-the-edges labor reform convict. He was cursed with ill fortune, had no heirs, and everyone hated him.
One day, he found a baby in a wild boar's den deep in the mountains. The child was as soft and white as a steamed bun, so he immediately brought her back to his drafty thatched hut.
The whole village waited to see him starve the baby to death.
But the very next day, the village's nanny goats lined up to squeeze through the fence into Huo Ye's yard. After giving their milk, they happily refused to leave!
And that wasn't all. The feared Huo Ye spent every day combing the mountains for tiger bones to make teething powder for the little one, and simmering century-old mountain ginseng into rice soup.
Little Suisui held her chipped, coarse porcelain bowl, eyes brimming with tears. "Papa Huo is so poor and has such a hard life. I'll catch a big wild boar and raise it for him!"
When the educated youths and nasty relatives tried to steal food and a house, the moment they kicked the door open, three-and-a-half-year-old Suisui punched them out along with the door and sent them flying into the manure pit.
Suisui sniffled and wiped her tears. "Waaah, Papa, don't be scared. Suisui will protect you!"
Behind her, the rough-looking Huo Ye, who was holding a hunting rifle and already had assets worth over ten thousand: "...Sweetheart, just make sure they can still breathe."
