[Political Intrigue] [Two Equally Matched Leads] [Rise from the Ashes] [Operatic Lyrics] [Fake Marriage]
The entire Xie family was sentenced to death. Xie Zhiwei hid in a low-class opera troupe, working as its bookkeeper.
A military commander stole thirty thousand shi of grain meant to save lives, then forced the troupe's female performers to entertain the troops.
She struck her abacus and rewrote the performance, weaving the accounts of the cannibalistic corruption into the lyrics.
The troupe's lead martial actor, Pei Zhaoye, raised his spear and used his gong-like voice to shout the corrupt officials' death sentence at a victory banquet.
The two escaped the encirclement with forged papers claiming they were husband and wife.
She kept the ledger of life and death; he became the executioner's blade. Together, they overturned a hypocritical court at every turn.
