The apocalypse arrives, and a million gods descend upon the world, attaching themselves to Hosts and feeding on their believers.
Once a week, a battle royale is held. The five gods and Hosts with the fewest believers are erased from existence.
Lin Shen, a down-on-his-luck screenwriter who's been unemployed for half a year, becomes the Host of the "God of Screenwriting."
This god is a character Lin Shen wrote into a script six months ago. Other than complaining and slacking off, he can't do a thing. Since he's fictional, he can't even devour believers.
While everyone else scrambles to recruit believers, wage divine wars, and climb the rankings, Lin Shen and his god spend every day lazing around in fragmented worlds, firmly at the bottom of the elimination rankings.
Everyone expects them to disappear next week, but no one has noticed:
Lin Shen can hear every thought in the gods' minds, from their lazy muttering to their vicious complaints about the world;
And every complaint subtly shifts reality in the direction of that complaint.
While the God of Program in the divine path upholds order, the gluttonous God of the demonic path devours everything, the historian of the human path writes history, and the Oblivion of the ghost path erases memories...
A fictional god whom no one takes seriously, and a screenwriter who can't come up with a story, are using the most absurd means to undermine the foundations of the entire System of Gods.
"The god I wrote became a true god in the apocalypse."
"But even now, he still thinks this world is just a badly written script."
