Before the demolition hammer falls, a hungry burp sounds from inside the wall.
In the tenth year of the disaster, maintenance worker Chen Ye guards the last dilapidated building his father left him. A demolition crew from the safe zone blocks the entrance: sign over the building and get a bed in the inner ring.
Refuse, and they'll tear it down on the spot.
But he discovers that this leaky old house eats monsters.
A rift hound lunges, and the doorframe bites through its neck.
As the Black Tide bears down, steel plating pushes out through the cracks in the walls.
Scrap generators, ownerless steel plates, mutated beast corpses: feed it anything, and it grows. The house sprouts a well, grows tank treads, and develops teeth harder than a cannon barrel.
While everyone else queues for a bed in a shelter, Chen Ye drives the entire house into the Black Tide to rescue people, seize water sources, and raid scrapyards.
If anyone points a cannon at him and demands the house, he'll tear down their city walls and add another layer to his own.
But the stronger the house gets, the hungrier it becomes.
To protect the dozens of people inside, he has to keep staking his life in the places swarming with the most monsters.
And with every level it gains, another door left behind by his father appears inside the house.
Behind the final door, something is feeding the entire apocalypse.
