A man of the highest rank, yet his service did not benefit the state;
A great general, yet his name was never renowned on the battlefield.
He had none of Duke Zhou's virtue, yet enjoyed the rites reserved for Duke Zhou;
He had none of Huo Guang's accomplishments, yet occupied Huo Guang's position.
While alive, the entire court praised him; when he died, all under heaven celebrated.
A general like this is laughable; a court like this is lamentable.
