After publishing the historical novel The Last Prince in 2015, the author spent three years writing another historical novel, The Last Princess. Written in a chapter-based format and set against the history of the Ming and Qing dynasties, the novel focuses on a princess's daily life and inner world. It depicts the society, customs, and ordinary people of the time, telling how she went from fine clothes and lavish meals behind the vermilion palace walls to a life of hardship far from home, and from worrying over the fate of her country to remaining true to her personal feelings. It recreates the protagonist's struggles and choices amid the tides of a turbulent age, showing readers an ordinary woman who is vivid and real, loyal and compassionate, and capable of both sorrow and joy, as well as the strength and growth of women.
