They Called My Films Trash and Said I Ruined Cinema, Now the Actresses Are Lining Up to Apologize

The movie New Three Smiles: Talented Scholars and Beauties stars the celestial beauty Zhao Yifei. When she refuses to drink with coal boss Wu Fada, he tells the director to ruin her. Xu Che, the director's assistant, is given the task. He adapts the script into Tang Bohu Spots Autumn Fragrance and makes Zhao Yifei look ugly. The movie draws a storm of criticism, yet becomes a box office hit. Zhao Yifei publicly accuses Xu Che of ruining her.

Wu Fada lavishes Xu Che with rewards.

Later, he makes the movie The East Is Red, which is once again met with widespread criticism from the media.

One after another, Xu Che's films break away from the established image of female stars. None of them are pleased.

But a few years later, all of Xu Che's films become classics.

Meanwhile, the new movies starring Zhao Yifei and several other actresses flop.

They come to their senses, publicly apologize to Xu Che, and hope to work with him again. Some even go so far as to plead with him.
