The Lucky Girl of 1970s China Leads Her Family to a Gold Mine!

[Golden Age Luck] [Impostor Heiress] [Beloved Little One] [Rags to Riches] [Difficult Relatives]

In the bitter winter of 1972, the eldest legitimate granddaughter of the military compound is deliberately switched at birth and thrown into a snowy ravine in the northwestern Gobi to die.

Tao Gang, a man from the third branch of the Tao family, digs the purple-lipped infant out of a snowdrift. His wife, Chu Yunshu, holds her and weeps all night, naming her Tao Sui'an.

No one could have guessed the girl was born with a lucky fate that would bring prosperity to her family.

She claps and giggles, and twelve gold ingots hidden since the previous dynasty turn up by the courtyard wall.

She kicks her legs in the carrying basket and points the way, and the dry riverbed yields nuggets of fine gold.

But the Tao family home is no place to find kindness: the grandmother is sharp-tongued and skimps on their food, the eldest aunt grabs everything she can, the second branch excels at stirring up trouble, and everyone covets every penny the third branch earns.

Chu Yunshu flips the table and divides the family in front of everyone. Tao Gang burns the copy of the severance agreement, and from then on, they want nothing to do with the old family home.

Little Sui'an helps her parents trade local goods and pelts and get their wares into the supply and marketing cooperative. The once-destitute third branch rises to become the most prosperous household for miles around.

Meanwhile, thousands of miles away in the military compound, the carefully raised "legitimate granddaughter" is finding it harder and harder to hide the cracks in her story.
