Tan Ling was once a merit box in a fox temple. After absorbing incense offerings, she cultivated into a little spirit. When the temple was torn down, a twist of fate made her the true daughter of the Chengde Duke's household.
When Tan Ling returns to the Chengde estate, her mother and older brother look down on her for growing up in the countryside. They not only dislike her, but brand her a bringer of misfortune, while showering their adopted daughter with love as if she were a lucky star.
But they don't know Tan Ling's secret: as long as she eats the money offered as incense, she can summon the great spirits enshrined at the fox temple to grant the faithful their wishes.
Her grandmother's serious illness, her cousin's bad leg, and her aunt's troubles of the heart are all cured through Tan Ling's blessings. Even the duke's title returns to her cousin.
Her grandmother and cousin dote on Tan Ling, and even want to find her a good husband.

"You're my older brother!"
Under the endless night sky, the young man is darkly arrogant. "Just your older brother?!"
