Synopsis

A folk-horror tale: one official dispatch has been held up for three years. The speaker is Shen Yan, a registrar in Bianzhou.

The dispatch was held up three months ago, and nobody dared take it on. Of the two who did, one grew a black ring around the back of his neck, while the other lost an eyelid. Three lines were written on the dispatch: Wherever it passes, there will be no rain for three years. After the hour of the Dog, do not enter any place with a threshold.

There are only three rules: find its name, trace its origins, and test its taboo. Only when all three are established can it be collected. Break the taboo, and it won't die. It will turn you into the next vessel.

The brothers have one who guards the dispatch and one who breaks it. The one who guards it moves slowly and never makes a mistake. The one who breaks it moves quickly, but each time he borrows power, another piece of someone else's body appears on his own.

Each time they collect a specter, one name is crossed off the Celestial Bureau's register.

The first page of that register bears the names of both brothers.

Looking for Supernatural Mystery Stories About Ghost Hunting and Fortune-Telling With a Powerful Protagonist!

I'm looking for books similar to Strange Exorcist: My Doll Can Really Manifest. The protagonist has to be strong! They need to have the right values! I don't want to read about a protagonist who's constantly pushed around or made stupid. I also don't want one who starts out as a total weakling and slowly grows stronger. That kind of story is too frustrating! I'm okay with it starting out...
