Ma Chao is a gentle, timid office worker who can do little besides cook and clean. One day, he wakes up inside a crime-world novel as the lowest-ranking servant in the Azure Dragon Gang. He trembles in fear, hoping only to survive on the fringes of the gang. Every day, he diligently serves tea, brings water, cooks noodles, and prepares medicine for the bosses, doing his best to remain invisible.
Then, at a meeting of the gang's leaders, the bosses argue over how to divide their territory, and the air turns tense. Ma Chao happens to pass by with a teapot. A fearsome hall master glares at him, making his hand shake. Before he can stop himself, he blurts out, "Can you big shots quit competing so hard? I'm just a lousy errand boy. You're all being so aggressive, be careful you don't wreck everything."
What he meant was to beg for mercy and play up how pathetic he was. But in this world's "underworld slang," "competing" means annexing, "aggressive" means fighting head-on, and "wreck everything" means wiping out the opposition root and branch.
The entire hall falls silent.
The bosses stare in shock: With one offhand remark, this servant has pinpointed the deadly trap and the way out for all three factions?!
From then on, the Azure Dragon Gang has a behind-the-scenes strategist "who sees every move coming and hides his true abilities." The gang leader follows his every word, while rival gangs tremble at the mere mention of him. Meanwhile, Ma Chao himself spends every day frantically trying to fix things on the verge of a breakdown. He says, "It's over," and the gang members think he means, "We've set a trap to lure the enemy in." He says, "It's so lonely being invincible," and they think he means, "The enemy is already trapped in an inescapable net." He says, "I'm done for," and they think he means, "Someone's about to have a very bad day."
He only wants to stay alive, yet the underworld has raised him to godlike status. And the true mastermind seems to have sensed something amiss from a certain phrase Ma Chao accidentally exposed...
