Retreat to the Savage Mountain? I Activate the Strategic System!

Tick-tock! Tick-tock!

Deep in the dense forests along the China-Myanmar border, everything was silent, save for the soft patter of water dripping from the treetops.

Li Chenfeng lay motionless in the undergrowth. A drop of water landed on a leaf beside his face, splashing into his eye, but he didn't dare blink.

His neck throbbed with pain. A leech squirmed happily against it, swollen with blood.

The bushes in the distance swayed. Li Chenfeng glanced at Zhang Xiaoyu, tamped down his agitation, and stared fixedly at the bushes.

In his hands was an old Hanyang rifle with five rounds in the magazine. He had another five-round clip on him.

Beside him, medic Zhang Xiaoyu was curled up. The bullet wound in her thigh had become infected. Her lips were cracked and purple, but she clenched her teeth and didn't make a sound.

"Don't shoot! There's a woman. Take them alive!"

The Japanese search party's shouts cut through the forest. A squad led by a sergeant, with six Japanese soldiers, casually pushed aside the branches as they searched their way over.

The two of them had vanished into this patch of forest. There was also a limping man, who had probably gone into hiding.

In the skirmish just now, the one who could shoot was clearly a rookie. He'd tried to provide covering fire and shot more than ten times without hitting a thing.

Bang!

A gunshot rang out.

The Japanese sergeant took a bullet to the forehead and fell backward.

"Congratulations, Host! You have killed a Japanese soldier and successfully activated the Strategic System."

"For killing a Japanese sergeant, you are awarded 20 points! The inventory and exchange interfaces are now unlocked. You can exchange points for needed supplies."

The sudden voice exploded in Li Chenfeng's mind, and his heart pounded.

But there was no time to investigate. Six Japanese soldiers remained, already splitting into two combat groups to surround him.

"Chenfeng... don't worry about me. You... go! I... won't make it anyway! I'll cover you!"
