[Pampered, money-loving beauty VS insecure, possessive man / cramped-rental-apartment romance / intense push and pull]
The novel's male lead was based on my own maternal uncle: a true background, a cruel reality.
Tang Yiyi is infamous at the electronics factory for being a spoiled troublemaker: materialistic, vain, and sharp-tongued. She latches onto Jiang Youlin, the assembly-line supervisor, because he's handsome, fit, strong, and willing to hand over his entire paycheck.
Jiang Youlin lost both parents and is desperately starved for affection. He's gloomy, possessive, and fiercely jealous, yet he pampers Tang Yiyi into an utterly spoiled little princess.
He fans her until the middle of the night in summer and warms her feet until dawn in winter. Even when she calls him a “poor loser,” all he does is bow his head and humbly apologize.
Then a car accident leaves Tang Yiyi dreaming of the future: the man she drained to the last drop will work himself to death at his station to buy her a mansion, worrying even as he dies that she won't have enough money to spend.
When she wakes, the spoiled troublemaker panics completely.
Seeing the man beside her, his eyes bloodshot, she hugs him for the first time and cries, “Jiang Youlin, I'm not mad anymore.”
But the man who loves her more than life itself holds her trembling and asks, “Yiyi, are you... going to leave me?”
