There are no gods or ghosts in this world, only people who pretend to wield supernatural powers.
During the Republic of China era, the world of the rivers and lakes concealed a secret society: the Jiangxiang Sect.
Its members posed as fortune-tellers, setting elaborate traps and manipulating people's hearts.
Statues weeping, vengeful spirits claiming lives, a drowned child floating upstream... Behind every terrifying phenomenon lay a carefully devised scheme to swindle people out of their money.
Yingyao to read people, Junma to read their hearts, Zhafei to conjure illusions, and Abao to set up a con: the four secret arts were, at their core, tricks of the underworld for exploiting human nature.
Zhang Mingqian sets one trap within another, joining the Jiangxiang Sect not for money, but to find his missing fiancee.
A scheme is no dinner party. A scheme is a path where every step could be your last.
One scheme leads into another, one trap conceals the next.
Watch him infiltrate the Jiangxiang Sect, enter its schemes, plot his own, and break them apart, seeing through the hearts of people in a chaotic age!
