Xu Mo, twenty-three, is a freelance mirror performer. His everyday work involves taking paid gigs at anime conventions, in the online voice-acting scene, and on short-video platforms, offering "paid comfort" with his cold, sharp-tongued face while putting on an aloof persona. In reality, he's a top-tier voice double whose detailed background no one in the industry can uncover. As long as you pay him, he can imitate anyone's voice and impersonate anyone so perfectly that even his own mother couldn't tell the difference. But because he's a loner and doesn't want to show his face, he never lets his work have any direct connection to him.
Then one day, the hit variety show Voices Across the Air invited trainee Bai Ye to take part in a live-action voice-acting show. When a celebrity stood them up, the production team mistakenly identified Xu Mo, who was working at a convenience store, as "the real Bai Ye" and pushed him into the stand-in seat at a donation event. Xu Mo planned to take the money and leave, but when he heard an abandoned audio clip of Bai Ye howling in despair after turning evil, he could tell from the voiceprint that Bai Ye was no longer merely "rebellious." He had fallen into a state of some kind of mental corruption. His voice was being eaten away by a chaotic force from another dimension.
And so Xu Mo was forced into the fray. He continued playing the "fake top-tier star," treading carefully under the spotlights, while using the "Thousand Faces Voice System" he'd drawn to travel by way of voice into anime worlds being consumed by the cracks of chaos: Jujutsu High, the set of Demon Slayer, the battlefield of the Hero Academy, the final voyage of One Piece... He wielded his voice like a sword and tears like a shield, forcibly steering one crumbling plotline after another back on course. But the closer he got to the truth, the more he realized that Bai Ye's corruption was only the prelude.
His true nemesis was the "screenwriter" himself.
